Will Smith Regrets Feuding With ‘Fresh Prince’ Co-Star
In a recent interview, Will Smith has expressed regret over his feud with his “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” co-star Alfonso Ribeiro. Smith, who played the role of William “Will” Smith, reflected on the tension that arose between them during the show’s six-season run from 1990 to 1996.
Ribeiro, who played the role of Carlton Banks, was the target of many of Will’s jokes on the show, with many of their scenes together focusing on Carlton’s strict dance moves. However, things took a turn when Will began to feel like Carlton was becoming too prominent in the show, overshadowing his own character.
“We were on the show, and we were just kind of clashing, man,” Will said in his interview. “I was feeling like Carlton was stealing the show, and I didn’t feel like my character was being given the respect that he deserved.”
Despite their professional differences, the two managed to maintain a cordial relationship and remained friends in the years following the show’s conclusion. However, Will’s comments have brought up the idea that they may not be as close as he thought.
“Alfonso and I, we never really reconciled,” Will said. “We didn’t have a huge blowout, but we never really… we didn’t really work through our differences.”
Smith’s regrets about the feud come as a surprise to many, as he and Ribeiro have maintained a positive relationship in the years following the show.
