Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who was sentenced to 14 years in prison for corruption and had his sentence commuted by former President Trump, has spoken out against President Biden’s decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden, for his own criminal convictions. In an interview with Bill Hemmer on “America’s Newsroom,” Blagojevich said that his case was different from Hunter’s because he did not commit crimes, but rather was targeted by “weaponized prosecutors” for political reasons.
Blagojevich, who served eight years in prison, also criticized President Biden’s decision to pardon Hunter, saying that it was a betrayal of the American people and a violation of his promise not to pardon his son. He noted that Biden knew he was going to pardon his son all along and lied to the American people about it.
“This is just another lie coming from Democratic political leaders who have cynical purposes for political reasons instead of being straight with the American people,” Blagojevich said.
He also expressed doubts about Biden’s claims that Hunter was “singled out only because he is my son,” saying that it was a way to deflect attention from the real issues. Blagojevich also criticized the White House for releasing a statement that suggested Hunter was targeted for political reasons, saying that it was “a scapegoat strategy to deflect the crowd’s attention from their own actions.”
Despite some critics calling out the White House for lying to the American people about the pardon, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre argued that the president was being truthful and that the decision to pardon Hunter was not made lightly. She also hinted that more pardons could be forthcoming before Biden leaves office.
