A Democratic U.S. congressman, Rep. Dean Phillips, spoke out against President Biden’s decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden, describing it as an example of “certain people being above the law.” Phillips, who represents Minnesota, took to social media to express his disapproval of the pardon, which was announced on Sunday.

In his statement, Phillips noted that President Biden had repeatedly stated he would not pardon Hunter, only to reverse himself, saying, “Let’s just say the quiet part out loud, certain Americans are indeed above the law, and influence is always for sale.” He also called out the “legalized corruption” in politics, stating that pardoning powers have been “abused” by presidents of both major political parties.

Phillips expressed his concerns that the pardon sets a bad precedent, saying, “It’s time for the exhausted majority to condemn and confront legalized corruption.” He also pointed out that Hunter Biden had been convicted in two separate federal cases earlier this year, including guilty pleas to federal tax charges and three felony gun charges.

Meanwhile, the White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, defended the president’s decision, stating that Biden has always been truthful with the American people and pointing to his statement on the matter. However, President Biden has yet to take questions from reporters on his decision to pardon his son.
