Jamie Lee Komoroski, the South Carolina driver who killed a bride and seriously injured the groom as they departed their wedding reception in April 2023, pleaded guilty to multiple felony charges and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Komoroski, who was 25 at the time of the crash, was driving a vehicle at 65mph in a 25-mph zone when she crashed into the golf-cart style vehicle carrying the newlyweds, Aric Hutchinson and his wife Samantha “Sam” Miller, who was just 34 years old.

Miller was killed in the crash, and Hutchinson was seriously injured along with two others from the wedding party. Prior to sentencing, Hutchinson addressed the court, telling the judge that he wishes he had died instead of his wife, who had told him she didn’t want the night to end. He also read a portion of their wedding vows, saying “That was hours before you killed her” to Komoroski.

Komoroski’s blood-alcohol content was found to be 0.261%, more than three times the legal limit, according to a report from the Folly Beach Police Department. She refused a field sobriety test at the scene and a warrant was issued for her blood to be taken for testing.

During the sentencing hearing, Miller’s family, including her parents and sister, spoke in court, sharing their grief and pain. Komoroski could be seen wiping away tears as they spoke, and she later addressed the court, taking full responsibility for the tragic outcome of her actions. She was sentenced to 25 years in prison with credit for time served while awaiting trial.
