Lawmakers React with Outrage as President Biden Pardons Son Hunter Biden Despite Claims He Wouldn’t
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle expressed their displeasure and disbelief Sunday evening after President Biden granted his son Hunter Biden a presidential pardon, just a year after Hunter was convicted on two separate federal cases. Hunter pleaded guilty to tax charges and felony gun charges, with the pardoning coming despite President Biden’s earlier claims that he had no intention of intervening.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., criticized President Biden, saying, “Not only has he falsely claimed that he never met with his son’s foreign business associates and that his son did nothing wrong, but he also lied when he said he would not pardon Hunter Biden. This administration’s lack of accountability and transparency is a reflection of its commitment to its own personal interests, rather than those of the American people.”
House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, also weighed in, asking, “If President Biden says there’s nothing to our impeachment inquiry, then why did he pardon his son for the same conduct we were investigating?”
