Jurors in Albuquerque, New Mexico, awarded a man over $412 million in a medical malpractice case against a men’s health clinic that operates in several states. The lawsuit alleged that the clinic, NuMale Medical Center, misdiagnosed the man and unnecessarily treated him with “invasive erectile dysfunction shots” that caused irreversible damage.
According to the complaint, filed in 2020, the man visited the clinic in 2017 in search of treatment for fatigue and weight loss. NuMale Medical Center is accused of setting up a “fraudulent scheme” to make millions off conning old men, promising irreversible damage if they did not agree to injections three times a week.
Lawyers for the plaintiff say the punitive and compensatory damages total the largest amount to ever be awarded by a jury in a medical malpractice case in the US. They hope the verdict will prevent other men from falling victim to a similar scheme.
NuMale Medical Center President Brad Palubicki stated that the company’s focus remains on delivering responsible patient care while maintaining strict safety and compliance standards at all its facilities. However, the company cannot comment on the specifics of the case at this time due to ongoing legal proceedings.
The medical center has clinics in multiple states, including Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Nevada, Nebraska, North Carolina, and Wisconsin. The court records show that jurors found the defendants’ fraudulent and negligent conduct resulted in damages to the plaintiff, and also found that their unconscionable conduct violated the Unfair Practices Act.
