More than 10,000 Cartons of Organic Eggs Recalled Due to Salmonella Concerns
More than 10,000 cartons of organic eggs sold at Costco stores have been recalled due to concerns about potential salmonella contamination. The eggs, which were packaged under the Kirkland Signature brand and sold at 25 Costco locations across five Southern states, were distributed by Handsome Brook Farms, an organic egg supplier based in New York.
The affected eggs, which have the numbers 327 and P1363 and a use-by date of January 5, 2025, were mistakenly packaged and distributed, according to the company. While there have been no reported illnesses linked to the recall, salmonella can cause severe infections, especially in children, older people, and those with weakened immune systems.
Symptoms of salmonella poisoning include fever, diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, and vomiting. Those who purchased the recalled eggs are advised to throw them out or stop using them and return them to Costco for a full refund. Additional controls and retraining have been implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future, according to the company.
This recall is separate from a recent outbreak of salmonella in eggs from Milo’s Poultry Farms, which led to 93 reported illnesses and 34 hospitalizations in 12 states.
