Kyle Rudolph: Vikings’ return to Sam Darnold uncertain, points to franchise tag

Kyle Rudolph, a former Minnesota Vikings tight end, has expressed his thoughts on the team’s quarterback situation, citing it as “really tough” to see Sam Darnold returning. Rudolph believes that the Vikings have to make a decision on whether to keep Darnold or give the keys to the offense to J.J. McCarthy, who was drafted in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Rudolph spoke with Fox News Digital, stating that Darnold had a great season, but his last two games were disappointing. He also emphasized the importance of the salary cap, saying that the Vikings have to make decisions based on the ramifications of the salary cap and what that does for the roster.

Rudolph believes that Darnold may get a decent deal, but it might not be with the Vikings. He mentioned that the quarterback position is about the money piece, and that the team has to make decisions based on salary cap constraints.

The Vikings will also consider using the franchise tag on Darnold, which would give them an option to keep him on a one-year franchise tag deal. However, this would come with a significant salary cap hit, making it an uphill battle for the team.

Rudolph also touched on the idea of the Kansas City Chiefs getting favorable treatment from referees, citing statistics that show they are not disadvantaged by the refs. He believes that it is not about favoritism, but about their high-profile status and the attention they receive, which can sometimes lead to more calls being made in their favor.

Rudolph also promoted his charity, Alltroo, which gives fans the opportunity to donate to player charities and win prizes such as a trip to the Super Bowl and the chance to announce a draft pick. For a minimum donation of $10, fans can enter to win, with 94% of those who donate being first-time donors.
