Democratic Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker Accuses Trump of Being Too Incompetent to Lead After Aircraft Collision
Governor JB Pritzker, a potential 2028 presidential contender, on Thursday accused President Donald Trump of being too incompetent to lead the country following a tragic aircraft collision in Washington, D.C.
Pritzker’s criticism was directed at Trump’s suggestion that the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) prioritization of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) played a role in the accident. Trump said that the FAA’s hiring of people with disabilities, including severe intellectual and psychiatric disabilities, may have contributed to the crash.
Pritzker responded by stating that Trump’s comments were irresponsible and demonstrated a lack of leadership. “Before victims have even been identified, Trump is blaming people with disabilities,” Pritzker said. “He’s blaming the U.S. service members in the Blackhawk helicopter. He’s blaming hiring programs he can’t even name or offer examples of. The buck stops with him — yet he is failing to demonstrate his role as protector of the American people and head of our government.”
Pritzker also called for the Trump administration to provide more information and facts about the accident, and questioned the administration’s handling of the FAA and the aviation industry.
Trump, on the other hand, has refused to apologize for his comments and has instead attempted to shift blame to the previous administration, pointing to DEI hiring practices initiated by the FAA during the Biden era. “This was on January 14th, so that was a week before I entered office,” Trump said.
The exchange is the latest development in a long-standing feud between Pritzker and Trump, who have publicly clashed on numerous occasions. Pritzker is one of many potential 2028 Democratic presidential contenders who has taken issue with Trump’s leadership style and handling of the FAA.
