Palantir CEO Alex Karp Warns of AI Threats, Calls for US to “Run Harder” to Stay Ahead
Palantir CEO Alex Karp has sounded the alarm on the rise of competing artificial intelligence models, warning that the US needs to work faster to develop advanced AI to stay ahead of the competition. In an interview with CNBC, Karp said that technology is not inherently good and can pose threats in the hands of adversaries, but that the US needs to acknowledge this and work harder to stay ahead.
Karp’s comments come as China’s DeepSeek AI model has made headlines for beating out OpenAI’s ChatGPT as the top free app on Apple’s US App store, sparking concerns about the cost and potential security risks of AI development. Karp expressed skepticism about the cost estimates surrounding DeepSeek’s creation, saying he doesn’t “really believe” them.
Palantir, which develops software and systems used by defense agencies, has seen its stock soar in recent years, with shares up over 425% in the past year. The company’s growth has been driven by ballooning demand for AI solutions, which Karp says Palantir is leading the charge on.
Karp also weighed in on the controversy surrounding Tesla CEO Elon Musk, saying that any idea that Musk is a Nazi is “completely absurd and a complete rewrite of history.” He also expressed support for Israel and its national security stance on illegal immigration, saying that people who enter the US illegally and engage in criminal activity should not have the right to remain in the country.
Palantir is set to report earnings after the bell on Monday, and Karp’s comments come as the company continues to ride the wave of demand for AI solutions.
