Dozens of FBI agents who worked on investigating the January 6, 2021, US Capitol attack and the now-dismissed classified documents case against President Donald Trump may lose their jobs as early as Friday. According to a CNN report, these agents were told via email that they are being dismissed due to their role in “prosecuting the President.”

Interim leaders at the Justice Department have allegedly been drawing up lists of individuals whose work has fallen out of favor with Trump for various reasons. Agents and analysts have been warned by FBI leadership that they may be asked to resign or face termination.

Six senior FBI officials have been told to retire early, resign, or be terminated by Monday, according to reports. Furthermore, as many as 20 heads of the FBI’s 55 field offices may be relieved of their duties as part of a “purge,” including the offices in Miami and Washington, DC.

David Sundberg, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Washington Field Office, received the news on Thursday that he was losing his job. The purge comes after Trump signed a blanket pardon for criminals who stormed the Capitol after the 2020 election.

The now-closed Trump’s classified documents case was also resolved after he won the November election.
