Marvel Movies Have a History of Being Weird
Over the years, Marvel movies have fallen into a formula, but that has not stopped the brand from releasing some incredibly strange and weird stories. Upcoming Marvel movies, such as Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, seem to be continuing this formula, with Captain Marvel: First Steps expected to introduce weirder plot elements. However, these strange elements have always been a part of Marvel’s history.
From the earliest Spider-Man movie, released in 1977, to more recent films like Deadpool & Wolverine, Marvel has shown a willingness to take risks and push boundaries with their storytelling. The Spider-Man movie featured Spider-Man fighting a guru, which was an unexpected and bizarre twist.
Marvel has also made an effort to shake things up by introducing comedy elements, such as in Thor: Ragnarok. This move paid off, and the film is now regarded as one of the best in the Thor series.
Deadpool & Wolverine is another example of Marvel embracing weirdness. The film blended the Fox X-Men characters with the MCU and featured the duo having a wild adventure through the multiverse. While it may not have been entirely cohesive, the film’s weird moments worked to create a fun and entertaining experience.
Marvel’s Cinematic Debut, Howard the Duck, released in 1986, was also a bizarre choice. The film starred a martial arts-practicing, cigar-smoking duck, and its blend of humor and drama never quite meshed.
