Mustard Reveals Kendrick Lamar’s Reaction to ‘Hey Now’ Beat
Rapper Mustard has revealed what Kendrick Lamar thought of the beat for his song “Hey Now”. During an interview with Big Boy’s Neighborhood, Mustard shared his encounter with the Compton rapper, stating that Kendrick was very particular about his beats.
Mustard recalled, “Kendrick came in the studio, and he listened to the beat. He’s like, ‘This is my song, you know what I’m saying?’ I’m like, ‘Man, I love the beat.’ He’s like, ‘This is my beat.'”
The rapper went on to explain that Kendrick’s reaction to the beat was surprising, given his reputation for being meticulous about his music. Mustard added, “He was like, ‘This is my beat.’ I’m like, ‘Okay, cool, you like it.’ He said, ‘You gotta make a new beat, man.'”
