Genevieve Shaw Brown Urges Americans to Use Vacation Time, Create Memories
Genevieve Shaw Brown, a travel expert, met with FOX Business at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT to discuss the importance of taking vacations and creating memories. As National Plan for Vacation Day approaches, Shaw Brown emphasized the need for Americans to use their time off offered by their employers.
“A lot of times if you don’t use them, you lose them,” Shaw Brown said of vacation days. “We really want to make sure that people are taking advantage of their well-deserved time off.” She noted that people are working more than ever before and need to take breaks to avoid burnout.
Shaw Brown highlighted Disney’s popularity and value for visitors of all ages, noting that there is always something going on at the parks. She considers Disney to be a great option for solo travelers and those traveling with loved ones.
Disney is a significant business in Florida, generating $40.3 billion in economic impact, according to a study from Oxford Economics. The company does not share specific visitation and resort booking numbers, but the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA)/AECOM report states that 244.6 million people visited the top 25 theme parks worldwide in 2023.
Vacation travel is expected to continue shattering records this year, with AAA projecting 19 million Americans will take a cruise in 2025. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) also reported a record number of passengers screened at airport checkpoints in 2024.
Shaw Brown encouraged Americans to take advantage of their vacation time, saying, “You’re never going to regret the trip. No vacation has to be perfect. It just has to be time away with your friends or your family, people you love or even by yourself, to just recharge and remember who you are outside of your work.”
