Trump Administration to Hold First White House Press Conference with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt
The Trump administration will hold its first White House press conference with newly appointed press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday afternoon. White House officials confirmed the press conference to Fox News Digital. Leavitt, 27, is the youngest press secretary in the nation’s history, having unseated President Richard Nixon’s press secretary Ron Ziegler, who was 29 when he took the position in 1969.
Leavitt, who was a fierce defender of Trump during his presidential campaign, served as assistant press secretary in Trump’s first administration and later as communications director for New York Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik. She ran for Congress in her home state of New Hampshire in 2022 but lost the election.
Trump has been on a media blitz since his inauguration, holding interviews with Fox News’ Sean Hannity and speaking with reporters while traveling to states affected by natural disasters. Trump’s press secretary has also appeared on various media outlets for interviews, but has not yet held a White House press briefing.
Trump’s first week in office was marked by a whirlwind of executive orders and actions, as he followed through on campaign promises such as securing the border and removing diversity, equity, and inclusion practices from federal offices. The President has repeatedly made himself available to the media, speaking with reporters for extended periods and sitting down for interviews, a departure from former President Joe Biden’s infrequent availability.
