[Pat Levin, 95, is worried about the 2024 election and feels left with a sense of dread and fear. “It’s left me very afraid,” she said. “Afraid of the future. Afraid of everything.” Levin, a lifelong Democrat, is concerned about Donald Trump being president, as well as the loss of Democratic Senator Bob Casey and Representative Susan Wild. This election result is particularly unsettling to her, as she has lived through many significant events in American history, including Vietnam, Watergate, and the 9/11 attacks.

Levin, though, is not alone in her despair. Marvin Boyer, 75, also expressed disappointment but is more optimistic and is suggesting that Democrats focus on local activism to make a difference. He notes that Trump’s win is not without precedent, citing politicians who were not popular but still won office. Boyer’s friend, Darrell Ann Murphy, 84, is organizing a “quiet resistance” group with fellow seniors who are lamenting the election results and expressing concerns about reproductive rights.

In a unique setting, Patricia Long, 68, sparred with a Republican and Trump supporter, Pamela Aita, 72. The two friends have differing views, and their debate is indicative of the polarization that has come to define American politics. Despite their disagreements, they can still find common ground, with both expressing their desire for unity and hope for a better future.
