Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and liberal comedian Jon Stewart lamented the “normalizing” of President Donald Trump by Democrats and Big Tech during their latest podcast episode of “The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart.” Stewart marveled at how Democrats’ preserved “decorum” during Trump’s inauguration, calling it a “surreal scene” to behold four years after the Capitol riot. He described their opposition to Trump during the campaign as “performative” now.
Ocasio-Cortez agreed, saying that Trump was “so much more dangerous” this time around because “he is much more normalized” than he was during his first term. She noted that people were more vigilant and on edge during his first term, but now “the norms are becoming him.” The norms are embracing him.”
The congresswoman also referenced the presence of Big Tech CEOs at the inauguration, including Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, Apple’s Tim Cook, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Google’s Sundar Pichai, and Tesla and SpaceX’s Elon Musk. She said it was a sign of the cultural shift, with luxury clothing designer Oscar de la Renta dressing the First and Second families and Big Tech CEOs showing their support for the president.
Ocasio-Cortez used the term “billionaire feeding frenzy” to describe the scene, saying it was a competition to show their loyalty to Trump and get favor with him. She also claimed that people were being “ripped off” and that Trump was just “the quintessential New York con man.”
