Zach Ertz’s New Role in Washington
Zach Ertz, a 34-year-old tight end, has adapted to a new role in Washington, playing a more security blanket-like role rather than being a stat-padder. Despite battling through injuries, Ertz has made an impact in the big moments, leading the team with 25 targets and 16 catches in the red zone. He has eight red-zone TD receptions, tied for second-most among tight ends.
Ertz’s leadership has been crucial to the team’s success, and he has developed a strong quarterback-tight end relationship. He is looking to make a different ending to his unique statistic of having a game-winning TD in the Super Bowl for a team and facing that team in the playoffs down the road.
In the Divisional Round win over Detroit, Ertz caught his first playoff touchdown since Super Bowl LII. On Sunday, he will become the second player in NFL history to have a game-winning TD in the Super Bowl for a team and face that team in the playoffs down the road. Ertz is focused on giving his team a chance to win the football game, rather than dwelling on his past with the Eagles.
“I’m not going out there with a chip on my shoulder or trying to prove to people X, Y, or Z. I’m just trying to go out there and be the best version of myself,” Ertz said.
