President Trump’s Proposal for “DOGE” Cutback Commission Hit with Federal Lawsuits
As President Donald Trump took the oath of office for his second term, a major controversy surrounding the proposed “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE) sparked three federal lawsuits seeking to prevent its implementation before it even goes into effect.
The DOGE, which does not exist as a formal government agency, would be an office within the White House tasked with recommending sweeping budget cuts. Backed by billionaires such as Elon Musk, Trump had appointed tech executive Vivek Ramaswamy to co-lead the initiative. However, Ramaswamy reportedly plans to exit the project to campaign for governor of Ohio, leaving the proposal without a co-leader.
Public Citizen and National Security Counselors, a progressive group and a legal advocacy firm, respectively, have filed motions in federal court seeking to stall the DOGE’s implementation and potentially shut it down altogether before it can affect the federal government.
