Bryce Underwood, a five-star quarterback recruit, made his first trip to Michigan Stadium since flipping his commitment from LSU to Michigan earlier this week. Underwood, who plays for Belleville High School, was accompanied by Connor Stalions, a former Michigan coach who was accused of being the ringleader of an alleged sign-stealing scandal within the Michigan program last year.
Stalions, who is now a coach at Belleville High School, was suspended by Michigan in October 2023 and resigned from his position. An NCAA investigation also led to a three-game suspension for former head coach Jim Harbaugh during the team’s national championship run last season.
Underwood, who is listed as ESPN’s top high school prospect in the country, was reportedly offered $10.5 million in NIL money over four years by Michigan, an unprecedented sum for a player who hasn’t played a college snap. LSU was also hopeful that Underwood would remain loyal to the Tigers after committing to them in January.
Michigan’s pursuit of Underwood ramped up in the last couple of months, and the decommitment of Carter Smith, a four-star recruit, created buzz that Underwood could be flipping. Underwood’s decision to commit to Michigan was seen as a major coup for the Wolverines, who are looking to rebuild their program after a disappointing follow-up to last year’s national championship.
