Microsoft announced that a major outage affecting its Outlook and Teams services would be resolved by Monday night, following a day of technical delays. At the peak of the outage, over 5,000 user-reported problems were tracked on the outage tracking site Downdetector.

By Monday afternoon, the company had deployed a fix to the problem, and reports of outages on Downdetector had dropped significantly. However, Microsoft warned that it would take some time for the updates to work their way to customers’ systems.

The company initially estimated that the issue would be resolved in three hours around 7:30pm ET, but later updated that the restarts of affected machines were progressing slower than anticipated. By 2pm ET, Microsoft still had not provided a specific estimated time for the fix.

The outage had a significant impact on many office workers, although some US users on Microsoft’s X platform celebrated the small break ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Tech outages have had dire effects around the world this year, with Microsoft’s outage being less widespread in comparison to other major incidents.
