[The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan, made a surprise visit to a meal distribution center in Pasadena, California, on Friday to support those affected by the devastating wildfires that have ravaged the state.
The couple, who have relocated to the US and have children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, were spotted at the Pasadena Convention Center, which has been converted into an evacuation site. They spoke with volunteers from World Central Kitchen, which has been providing free meals to emergency crews and those affected by the blazes.
The Duke and Duchess, who wore face masks, initially served food quietly without being recognized, according to Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo. Gordo described the couple as “great people” who came to support the community and “didn’t come out here for publicity.”
Harry and Meghan relocated to the US in 2020 and have since settled in Montecito, about 90 miles from Los Angeles. They have been involved in several charitable efforts and have donated supplies and offered their home to those affected by the wildfires.
In a statement, the couple noted that the fires have devastated homes, schools, and medical centers, affecting tens of thousands of people. They provided a list of resources and urged people to consider donating to fire service charities and temporary housing initiatives.
At least 11 people have been confirmed dead in the wildfires, with many more still missing or displaced.
