Donald Trump has announced his plan to make Canada the 51st state of the United States, following Justin Trudeau’s decision to resign as Canada’s prime minister. Trump claims to have recruited Wayne Gretzky, the legendary hockey player, to be the governor of Canada if the plan were to come to fruition.
Gretzky, who has a connection to Trump through his son-in-law, Dustin Johnson, a professional golfer who plays on the LIV Golf tour, which has held tournaments at Trump’s golf courses, was reportedly not interested in the offer. However, Trump believes Gretzky would have been a great choice for the role.
Trump has been pushing for Canada to become a state for some time, and has even claimed that many people in Canada love the idea. He made the announcement during a news conference in Palm Beach, and also posted about it on social media, saying “Together, what a great Nation it would be!!!”.
Trudeau, who has been facing pressure from within his own Liberal Party over his handling of the economy and threats from Trump, has dismissed the idea of Canada becoming a state, saying there is “not a snowball’s chance in hell” that it would happen.
