Lions’ Defensive Coach Glen Keeping Unit Afloat Despite Injury-Plagued Season
Despite the Lions being decimated by injuries to key defensive players, including Aidan Hutchinson, Alim McNeill, and Carlton Davis, Defensive Coordinator DeWayne Glen has kept the unit performing at a high level. Sunday’s outing was a prime example of this, as Glen’s aggressive and physical style helped the defense achieve key stops, particularly in the red zone.
While many defenses would have struggled with the numerous injuries, Glen’s unit has remained a stalwart, allowing the second-lowest completion percentage and the lowest passer rating in 2024. The unit has also been strong against the run, ranking fifth in rushing yards allowed per game and tops in opponents’ third-down conversion percentage.
Coach Dan Campbell, while aware that the team may struggle without Glen at the helm, is rooting for his Defensive Coordinator to land a promotion. Campbell praised Glen’s leadership and the defense’s ability to execute his plan, highlighting the unit’s performance on third down, fourth down, and in the red zone.
Glen is scheduled to interview for head coaching positions with the Bears, Jaguars, Saints, and Giants. Given his impressive résumé and the unit’s performance, it would be surprising if Glen exited the hiring cycle without securing a top coaching position.
