[The Washington Post laid off around 100 employees, approximately 4% of its staff, as part of a plan to restructure its business and improve financial sustainability. The layoffs did not affect the newsroom. This is the latest move in the publication’s financial struggles, which began after its owner Jeff Bezos blocked the publication’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. The move was met with resistance from some readers, with over 250,000 Post subscribers canceling their subscriptions, around 10% of its digital subscriber base. Several high-profile journalists have recently left the publication, and the company is continuing to search for a new executive editor.
