Mothra: The Unlikely Victor in Godzilla’s World
Though not renowned for her raw power, Mothra has emerged victorious in numerous battles within the Godzilla franchise. Over the years, she has clashed with a variety of kaiju associated with Godzilla, including King Ghidorah and Gigan. In the Monsterverse, she even faced off against Rodan, Godzilla’s greatest ally.
Given her numerous opponents, it’s no surprise that Mothra has fallen in battle multiple times, including in her first film, “Mothra vs. Godzilla,” and her debut in the Monsterverse, “Godzilla: King of the Monsters.” However, despite her lack of raw power, Mothra has accumulated an impressive win total, both as one of Godzilla’s monster allies and as an enemy.
Mothra’s impressive count of 12 wins is a testament to her cunning and determination. Her first victory came in “Mothra vs. Godzilla,” where her larvae subdued Godzilla with their silk webbing. This was followed by two successful battles alongside Godzilla against Ghidorah, in “Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster” and “Destroy All Monsters.”
In “Ebirah, Horror of the Deep,” Mothra drove off Godzilla, while in “Godzilla vs. Mothra,” she teamed up with her ancient rival to fight Godzilla and emerged victorious. Additionally, she beat Battra in their larval forms and later flew away as the victor, leaving Godzilla sealed away in the ocean.
In the Millennium era, Mothra had a notable win against Mechagodzilla, with her larvae working together to defeat Godzilla in “Godzilla: Tokyo SOS.” Although she died in this battle, her victory was crucial to their ultimate success.
In the Monsterverse, Mothra faced off against Rodan, one of Godzilla’s most formidable allies. Despite initial setbacks, she managed to land a winning blow against the Titan.
It remains to be seen if Kong will surpass Mothra’s record in the future, as the monster’s recent victories in the Monsterverse and “Godzilla vs. Kong” suggest he may be closing the gap. Nevertheless, Mothra’s impressive win total solidifies her position as one of the most formidable kaiju in the Godzilla franchise.
