Jones, who was on the sideline, impeded the official, resulting in a 10-yard penalty for Georgia. The Bulldogs were forced to settle for a 41-yard field goal after two runs and an incomplete pass.
The unusual penalty drew reactions on social media, with many finding it humorous. Jones, who has yet to play a snap in his career, is a native of Albany, Georgia. The College Football Playoff quarterfinal was played a day after a terror attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, which left 13 people dead and several others injured. The game was postponed from Wednesday to Thursday evening.
