The New Orleans Saints and Pelicans have announced that one of the victims in the recent terror attack on Bourbon Street was a valued employee. Matthew Tenedorio, a member of the ASM New Orleans video production team, was tragically killed in the attack, which claimed over a dozen lives and injured many more.

“We remain heartbroken by the tragic events that claimed innocent lives in our city yesterday morning,” said the Saints’ statement. “Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with the Tenedorio family and everyone affected by this senseless act of terrorism.”

The attack, which occurred on New Year’s Day, prompted the postponement of the Sugar Bowl, a College Football Playoff quarterfinal matchup between Georgia and Notre Dame at the Caesars Superdome. The game was rescheduled for Thursday afternoon.

Authorities opened Bourbon Street hours before the game, and security measures were in place to ensure the safety of attendees. Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry has assured the public that the state is working to put the game on and has confidence in the security measures.

Notre Dame head football coach Marcus Freeman and SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey were among those who reacted to the senseless act of violence. Freeman spoke to his team about the attack, saying, “In the toughest moments, the culture of any program, of a nation, are revealed. I have a lot of faith we’re going to rally around the city of New Orleans and support all the victims and families that were affected today.”

The winner of the Sugar Bowl will move on to face No. 6 Penn State, which defeated No. 3 Boise State on New Year’s Eve.
