A 42-year-old man, Shamsud Din Jabbar, has been identified as the driver behind the horrific attack on New Year’s Eve. He plowed his vehicle into a crowd of revelers in the French Quarter, killing 10 people and injuring 30.

The attack occurred at around 3:15 am, as thousands of people were celebrating the New Year’s Eve. Jabbar was wearing full body armor and wielding an assault rifle, and eyewitnesses described the scene as “chaos” and “surreal”.

Jabbar has a criminal history, having been arrested in Texas for misdemeanor theft and driving with an invalid license. He also served in the US Army and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2009. It is unclear whether he was connected to ISIS or was acting alone.

The FBI is investigating the incident as an “act of terrorism” and has asked for the public’s help in tracking down associates. Officials are still working to determine whether Jabbar had a connection to ISIS and whether he was working with others.

The attack has left the city in shock, with the New Orleans Police Department describing it as a “terrorist attack”. The city’s mayor, LaToya Cantrell, said that the incident was a “horrific and senseless act of violence” and vowed to work with the FBI to bring those responsible to justice.

The attack has also raised concerns about security in the city, which is set to host the Super Bowl in February. The game, which was scheduled to take place on Wednesday, has been postponed as a result of the attack.

The victims include a 37-year-old man, Reggie Hunter, and a 27-year-old man, Tiger Bech, who died from “catastrophic” injuries. An 18-year-old woman, Nikyra Cheyenne Dedeaux, has also been identified as one of the victims.

As the investigation continues, the city and its residents are coming to terms with the devastating consequences of the attack, which has left hundreds of people injured and traumatized.
