Two of Washington Post’s top political journalists have left to join The Atlantic Magazine. Ashley Parker and Michael Scherer will report to the news magazine ahead of President-elect Trump’s second inauguration. This change comes as the Washington Post bleeds talent. The Atlantic Editor-in-Chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, is ramping up hiring to expand political coverage with more than a dozen new reporters and editors. Prior to the Trump inauguration, Goldber said in a statement his goal is for The Atlantic “to cover the incoming administration rigorously.” More departures might be imminent since other Washington Post staff, namely Josh Dawsey and Tyler Pager, are likely to exit within the next period.
In comparison, the publication faced turmoil for months with mass layoffs and losses of prominent journalist. Not forgetting the paper declined to endorse an election candidate at the expense losing over 200,000 online subscribers. For a reversal movement, the Washinton Post seeks to rev up with new names like Warren Strobel’s intelligence reporting desk and Karen Peniero as it standards editor at the end and start of his term
