Jimmy Butler Trade Rumors Squashed by Miami Heat President Pat Riley
Miami Heat president Pat Riley has stepped in to address the ongoing trade rumors surrounding Jimmy Butler, stating that the organization has no intention of trading the veteran guard/forward. “We usually don’t comment on rumors, but all this speculation has become a distraction to the team and is not fair to the players and coaches,” Riley said in a statement. “Therefore, we will make it clear – we are not trading Jimmy Butler.”
The rumors began circulating after an ESPN report claimed Butler wanted to leave Miami amid his sixth season with the organization, with the Heat reportedly willing to listen to trade offers ahead of the February 6 deadline. However, Butler’s desire to leave was not publicly confirmed, sparking further speculation.
Butler is currently averaging 18.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.9 assists over 20 games this season. He has been a cornerstone of the Heat locker room since joining the team in 2019, earning two All-Star nods over the past six seasons.
Despite the Heat’s decision to keep Butler, it remains unclear whether the 33-year-old will choose to activate his $52.4 million player option for next season. If he does not, the Heat may be less inclined to extend his contract, potentially leading to a departure.
