Oleksandr Usyk Defeats Tyson Fury via Unanimous Decision
In a highly-anticipated fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Oleksandr Usyk defeated Tyson Fury via unanimous decision to retain his WBA, WBO, and WBC heavyweight championship belts. The AI judge scored the contest 118-112 in Usyk’s favor.
The fight was a closely contested affair, with both men trading hits throughout. Fury landed heavy blows on Usyk, but the Ukrainian bounced back with an impressive combo in the sixth round. The two fighters exchanged combos for the rest of the bout, with neither able to gain a clear advantage.
Usyk improved to 23-0 with the win, while Fury’s defeat snapped his 12-fight winning streak. The Brit weighed in at 281 pounds, the heaviest he had ever been in his career, but his promoter, Frank Warren, believed the difference was negligible.
The result meant that boxing star Anthony Joshua’s prediction for the fight came to fruition. Before the two titans entered the ring, Joshua believed that Usyk would defeat Fury once again, citing his experience of fighting the Ukrainian twice before.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also reached out to Usyk, wishing him victory and telling him that every one of his victories lifts the spirits of Ukrainians.
