[New York CNN – Veteran Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto is leaving the network after nearly three decades on the air. Cavuto made the announcement on his afternoon program “Your World” stating he was not leaving journalism, just leaving Fox News.

Cavuto started at Fox News in 1996 and hosted around 12 hours a week across the Fox Business and Fox News channels. Despite being offered a contract extension at a lower salary, Cavuto declined.

During his time at Fox, Cavuto stood out for his fact-checking and criticism of President-elect Donald Trump. He felt it was his role to separate fact from fiction, especially when financial decisions were on the line. This earned him criticism from some Trump fans and a loss in viewers.

Trump celebrated Cavuto’s departure, writing on his Truth Social platform “GOOD NEWS FOR AMERICA! Neil Cavuto, the Lowest Rated Anchor on Fox, by far, is leaving – Should have happened a long time ago!”

However, many others praised Cavuto on his final broadcast. Editor-in-chief of The Hill, Bob Cusack, praised Cavuto saying “I’ve always appreciated you, you call balls and strikes, you’re not a ‘yes-man’ it’s an honor to be on show”. Former Fox News anchor, Geraldo Rivera, wrote “Bravo Neil Cavuto on 3 great decades at Fox News. Fair and balanced for real, Neil never chickened out”. Cavuto thanked Fox for sticking with him through his multiple health issues, including multiple sclerosis, open heart surgery and Covid-19.
