Lin-Manuel Miranda Reveals His One Regret About Mufasa: The Lion King Music

Lin-Manuel Miranda, the composer of the new Lion King spinoff, Mufasa: The Lion King, has revealed his only regret about the film’s music. In an exclusive interview with ScreenRant, Miranda expressed his disappointment that he did not get to write a song for Billy Eichner, who has an “incredible voice”.

Mufasa: The Lion King is a prequel and sequel that tells the story of Mufasa’s early days in the Pride Lands, while also weaving in the tale of Simba and Nala’s cub, Kiara. The film features a talented voice cast, including Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Tiffany Boone, Kagiso Lediga, Billy Eichner, Blue Ivy Carter, Donald Glover, and Beyoncé.

When asked about the songs that were cut from the movie, Miranda praised the cast’s vocal abilities, saying, “My only regret is I didn’t get to write a tune for Billy Eichner, who has an incredible voice. By the time I came on board, the cast was already set, and I was excited to hear them sing. I was like, ‘Please be able to sing. Please be able to sing.'”

The lack of a song for Timon, voiced by Eichner, may be a disappointment for fans of the original Lion King, which featured the beloved song “Hakuna Matata”. The new film’s focus on Mufasa’s story may have led to the omission of a Timon song, which may leave audiences missing the carefree and fun vibe that the character is known for.

Mufasa: The Lion King is set to release on December 20, 2024.
