President-elect Trump Drops New Ambassador Nominations, Warns Senate Republicans Against Deal-Making with Democrats
President-elect Donald Trump nominated two new ambassadors on social media Tuesday evening, along with a warning to Senate Republicans to avoid making deals with Democratic lawmakers to “fast track” nominations.
Trump announced Herschel Walker, a former NFL player and political candidate, as his choice for U.S. ambassador to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. Walker is a staunch Trump ally and was a candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2022.
Trump praised Walker’s past work in the sports and military communities, noting that he spent decades serving as an ambassador to the nation’s youth, military personnel, and athletes at home and abroad. He also highlighted Walker’s work as co-chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition and his representation of the United States at the 1992 Winter Olympics as a member of the U.S. bobsled team.
Trump also nominated Nicole McGraw, a philanthropist, businesswoman, and world-renowned art collector, as his choice for U.S. ambassador to Croatia. McGraw’s achievements include leading CANVAS Art Charities and raising millions of dollars for neglected and abused children through her work on the board of Place of Hope.
After announcing the nominations, Trump issued a warning to Senate Republicans, stating, “To all Senate Republicans: NO DEAL WITH DEMOCRATS TO FAST TRACK NOMINATIONS AT THE END OF THIS CONGRESS. I won the biggest mandate in 129 years. I will make my appointments of Very Qualified People in January when I am sworn in.”
