Former Cook County Prosecutor Kim Foxx is no longer authorized to practice law in Illinois after failing to maintain her license. According to the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission (ARDC), Foxx’s license was suspended on December 1 due to non-compliance with the state’s minimum continuing legal education (MCLE) requirements.

Foxx, who served as Cook County’s top prosecutor from 2016, has been a subject of controversy throughout her tenure. She has been criticized for her handling of the Jussie Smollett case, in which she dropped charges against the actor who fabricated a hate crime hoax.

Foxx’s suspension comes after her successor, Eileen O’Neill Burke, took office and promised to adopt a tougher approach to prosecution. DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin has expressed his commitment to this new approach, stating that prosecuting crime and holding criminals accountable is effective.

Foxx’s problems began when the ARDC reported that she was no longer authorized to practice law, citing her failure to maintain her MCLE requirements. However, Foxx disputed the decision, stating that it was a “clerical error” and that she had completed the required coursework. Despite this claim, her suspension remained in effect.
