Bill Belichick Wastes No Time Building UNC Tar Heels Squad

Bill Belichick has made a swift start in building his North Carolina Tar Heels football team, introducing a four-star recruit, quarterback Bryce Baker, at a Tar Heels basketball game on Saturday. The introduction marked the biggest question mark regarding Belichick’s transition into college football, specifically his adjustment to recruiting in the Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) era.

During his appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Belichick discussed the recruiting process, calling it an “interesting process” but one he’s seen before. He compared it to the post-draft process and the beginning of free agency, combined with the transfer portal.

Belichick revealed that a number of players will be coming through Chapel Hill this week, taking advantage of the open transfer portal. He emphasized that the program is selling itself, but also stated that many agents and players are approaching the program, eager to be part of it.

The legendary coach is still putting together his coaching staff and assessing his current roster, acknowledging that it’s a process that needs to be learned on the fly. Despite the challenges, Belichick has already secured a top quarterback prospect and more potential key roster pieces are on the way.

UNC has seven three-star recruits committed for the 2025 season, with Baker being a verbal commit.
