ROME – The Italian government is willing to collaborate with Stellantis NV on its future strategy, provided it keeps jobs and factories in the country, according to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Meloni made the comments ahead of a meeting on the Italian automotive industry, which will involve Industry Minister Adolfo Urso, the automaker’s representatives, and local unions. She emphasized that the government evaluates economic cases on their own merits, and if the approach is constructive and there is a willingness to maintain factories and jobs, it will be ready to take action.

The comments come after the sudden resignation of Carlos Tavares as CEO, which has strained relations between the company and Rome. Italian politicians have repeatedly accused Tavares of neglecting historic manufacturing sites and moving production abroad. Stellantis has 14 brands, including Jeep, Ram, Fiat, and Peugeot.
