Cody Rhodes Retains Undisputed WWE Championship, Drama Erupts After Match
Cody Rhodes retained the Undisputed WWE Championship with a victory over Kevin Owens at Saturday Night’s Main Event in New York. However, the real fireworks started after the match. Rhodes used a chair Owens brought into the match to hit the patented Cross Rhodes finishing maneuver, after Owens missed with a chair shot. But Owens returned to the ring to attack the champion, nailing Rhodes with an “illegal” package piledriver. Rhodes left the arena on a stretcher.
As Owens walked towards gorilla position, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque confronted him, shoving him before WWE security guards had to separate the two. Levesque then went to check on Rhodes. This incident marked the second time Owens used the package piledriver on a SmackDown superstar, leaving Randy Orton down and out and taken out of an arena on a stretcher.
The future of both Owens and Rhodes remains unclear in the aftermath.
In other matches, Chelsea Green made history by winning over Michin, becoming the first United States women’s champion. She rolled over Michin’s back in the corner and hit an incredible unpretty-her move and picked up the pinfall. Green’s journey to the top was long, having made her first appearance in WWE in 2014 and competing on “Tough Enough” in 2015 before eventually returning to WWE in 2023 and becoming a tag-team champion.
Other results from the night included:
* Drew McIntyre defeating Sami Zayn via pinfall
* Liv Morgan defeating Iyo Sky via pinfall to retain the Women’s World Championship
* Gunther defeating Finn Balor and Damian Priest via pinfall to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.
