The founder of fashion giant Mango, Isak Andic, has died unexpectedly in an accident on Saturday, the company announced in a statement. Andic, 71, served as the company’s non-executive Chairman and dedicated his life to Mango, leaving an indelible mark thanks to his strategic vision, inspiring leadership, and unwavering commitment to values.

According to Catalonia’s regional police, Andic fell down a ravine of over 320 feet in the Collbató caves of Salnitre, a popular tourist destination near Barcelona, on Saturday afternoon. His body was retrieved by police units deployed to the scene.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Catalonia’s regional president, Salvador Illa, have paid tribute to Andic, praising his work and business vision that turned Mango into a world reference in fashion. Andic had a net worth of 4.5 billion dollars, according to Forbes, and founded the Mango brand in Barcelona, Spain in 1984.

Mango is one of Europe’s leading fashion groups, with stores in over 120 markets and sales surpassing 3.2 billion dollars in 2023. The company currently operates 40 stores in the US and plans to open 20 more next year.
