Nosferatu Rakes in Major Award Nominations Despite Golden Globes Snub
Despite being shut out of the 2025 Golden Globes nominations, Robert Eggers’ horror remake of the 1922 German expressionist silent film Nosferatu has earned four nominations for the Critics Choice Awards. The movie is a remake of the iconic film, which is loosely adapted from the novel Dracula by Bram Stoker, and has been remade several times before.
The film has tied with Challengers and Gladiator II for the 10th most nominations of the entire ceremony, with nods for Best Cinematography (Jarin Blaschke), Best Production Design (Craig Lathrop), Best Costume Design (Linda Muir), and Best Hair and Makeup (Traci Loader, Suzanne Stokes-Munton, and David White).
The four nominations put Nosferatu in the same league as other awards season favorites, including Sing Sing and Nickel Boys, which each earned five Critics Choice Awards nominations, and Anora and The Substance, which have seven. Only The Brutalist, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, Wicked, and Conclave have earned more nominations than Nosferatu.
The success of Nosferatu could also bode well for its Oscar chances, as it may indicate that it will be a contender on Academy Awards ballots. This is especially significant given that the movie has been snubbed by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the group behind the Golden Globes.
Robert Eggers, the director of The Witch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman, may also benefit from these four Critics Choice Awards nominations, as it could indicate a more successful awards season for him than his previous films. With Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, and Willem Dafoe starring alongside him, the movie has a robust ensemble cast.
