US Capitol Police Arrest Person Who Physically Accosted Rep. Nancy Mace
US Capitol Police have arrested a person who Republican Representative Nancy Mace of South Carolina claims physically accosted her on Tuesday. Mace made the allegation in a post on X, stating that she was “physically accosted” on Capitol grounds over her efforts to protect women.
According to Mace, Capitol Police were called to the Rayburn Office Building after a report was made just after 6 p.m. by a member of her office. Officers and agents from the Threat Assessment Section tracked down and arrested a suspect, charging them with assaulting a government official.
Mace shared a update on social media, saying, “One new brace for my wrist and some ice for my arm and it’ll heal just fine.” The incident is the latest in a series of confrontations and threatening behavior that Mace has experienced in recent months, including the introduction of legislation to ban transgender women from using women’s restrooms at the Capitol and in federally funded schools.
Mace has been a vocal advocate for women’s rights and has sought to demonstrate that the GOP is “pro-women” in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and in the context of the 2022 midterm elections.
