Less than 600 people crossed the U.S.-Mexico border on Sunday, marking a record low number since President Donald Trump took office. According to sources, not a single one of the nine border sectors received more than 200 crossings, with a total of 582 daily encounters reported.
In comparison, the daily number of border encounters during the final days of the Biden administration ranged from 1,200 to 1,400 per day. The latest numbers are a stark contrast to the peak of 4,000 daily crossings in the Del Rio sector during the height of the border crisis in December 2023.
The low numbers come as Trump has vowed to address the issue, promising to “declare a national emergency at our southern border” during his inauguration on January 20. He also pledged to “immediately halt all illegal entry” and deport millions of criminal aliens back to their countries of origin, in addition to sending troops to the southern border to repel the “disastrous invasion of our country.”
