49ers Linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair’s Job in Jeopardy after Refusing to Enter the Game
Azeez Campbell’s time with the San Francisco 49ers appears to be coming to an end. The 31-year-old linebacker got into a dispute with coach Kyle Shanahan after Greenlaw returned to the starting lineup, and Campbell, who was signed as a bridge until Greenlaw was healthy, refused to re-enter the game in the third quarter. He later left the locker room during the game.
Campbell’s teammates were not understanding of his actions, and tight end George Kittle expressed his disappointment, stating that anyone on the team would “die to get on that football field”. Kittle also implied that Campbell’s decision was motivated by personal issues, rather than a desire to help the team.
The 49ers are now faced with the decision of what to do with Campbell. Whether they choose to release him outright or suspend him due to his actions, Campbell’s time with the club appears to be over.
In his 13 games with the 49ers, Campbell made 12 starts, compiling 79 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, and two passes defensed.
