3 shot and 1 stabbed at Phoenix airport in apparent family dispute on Christmas night, officials say

Three people were shot and another person was stabbed at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Arizona during a family dispute in one of the terminals on Christmas night, according to police. The incident occurred at a Terminal 4 restaurant, outside the security perimeter, where officers found three people with gunshot wounds around 9:45 PM.

A juvenile female and a man were later detained in the parking garage, with the man having at least one stab wound. The four victims were taken to a hospital, with one woman in critical condition and three others in stable condition. The detained individuals have yet to be interviewed, and no charges have been filed.

The police believe the family dispute escalated and that all five people involved know each other. “I believe this was a family dispute that escalated. We do not believe there’s any suspects out there,” said Phoenix police Sgt. Mayra Reeson.

The gunfire forced the temporary closure of Terminal 4’s security checkpoint, but operations have since returned to normal. Another incident occurred when a man arrived with a gun, having received misinformation about a possible active shooter at the airport. He was detained after an altercation with police.

Police have assured that there are “no active threats at the airport,” and no flights are affected by the investigation. The incident has been resolved, and the airport is operating normally again.
