Marvel Studios Could Bring Iconic X-Men Villains to the MCU
Marvel’s upcoming X-Men reboot is expected to introduce some of the most iconic villains from the Marvel Comics universe. The reboot, being written by Michael Lesslie, is expected to reinvent the X-Men team and provide a powerful adversary for its MCU debut.
Magneto is one of the most recognizable X-Men villains and is expected to make a comeback in the MCU. Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender have both portrayed Magneto in Fox’s X-Men franchise, and the character has been a significant part of the team’s narrative. Magneto’s complex character could be further explored in the MCU, showing his evolution from supervillain to superhero.
Apocalypse, a powerful and ancient mutant, is another character that could make a comeback in the MCU. His depiction in Fox’s X-Men franchise was met with disappointment, but a new adaptation could finally bring his complex and interesting Marvel Comics backstory to life.
William Stryker, a villainous human, could also appear in the MCU’s X-Men reboot, setting up an adaptation of the comic book storyline “God Loves, Man Kills” for the future.
Mister Sinister, a student in Victorian London who became obsessed with genetic mutation, has been a significant foe to the X-Men in the comics. Although he was teased in Fox’s X-Men franchise, he has yet to make a live-action debut. Jon Hamm was originally set to play Mister Sinister in The New Mutants, but this never came to fruition. He has expressed interest in playing the character again, and it’s possible this could still happen.
The X-Men reboot presents an opportunity for Marvel Studios to bring these iconic villains to life and provide a compelling adversary for the X-Men team. With a talented team of writers and directors, the possibilities are endless for the future of the X-Men franchise in the MCU.
