The 82nd annual Golden Globes ceremony aired on CBS and reached 10.1 million viewers on Sunday night, according to VideoAmp data. This represents a 7% increase from last year’s show, which received 9.4 million viewers. The ceremony, hosted by Jo Koy, was CBS’s first time airing the Golden Globes and saw a 50% increase from NBC’s 2023 Globes telecast.
The ceremony, which aired from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., benefited from a strong lead-in with the NFL game between the Chiefs and Broncos, but also aired in competition with NBC’s telecast of the Vikings-Lions game, which averaged 28.5 million viewers.
When isolating for livestreams on Paramount+ and the CBS app, viewership was up 9% compared to last year. The ceremony received positive reviews, with Variety critic Araminde Tinubu praising host Nikki Glaser for her performance, saying she “was vibrant and zingy from the moment she opened her mouth” and “enabled her to reset the Globes to its former delightful glory.” Co-showrunner Glenn Weiss praised Glaser as well, saying she would be great for the role in the long term and had possibly already been asked to return as host.
